A Look at Hipster Clothes in Fashion

One might wonder if the Hipster way of life is just a fad or if it will be here to stay for a long time. In our opinion, hipsters are going to be around for at least a few decades. So don’t worry, all those hipster clothes you bought will be the wardrobe staple items and, with a little bit of imagination, they can be put to good use. Hipster clothes are quite typical and will never be out of date. So if you’re looking for a new style mantra, this look may be the one for you.

Hipster Clothes for Girls
A typical hipster girl is dressed in a manner that can be recognized anywhere. She shops at thrift stores and other stores that sell vintage clothing. Vintage clothing includes dresses that women in the 70s and 80s wore. If it is not a dress, then she can be seen wearing tight fitting jeans. If not jeans, then it is a pair of printed tights. These are supported with a net racer back vest and/or a t-shirt over it. She can also be seen wearing tight t-shirts which have strong counter-community messages splashed across them. Accessorizing is the key when it comes to hipster clothes, especially for girls. Beaded jewelry is the most popular choice. Dark rimmed spectacles are another favorite accessory together with headbands and bandanas. Anything with a bronze or gold bejeweled owl on it is good. Earrings, necklaces,....earrings. Anything!

Hipster Clothes for Guys
Spotting a hipster boy in a crowd is also very easy. A hipster guy will wear either a pair of tight fitted jeans or a pair of jeans that flares at the bottom. With this, he will either wear a t-shirt with a message that would be something subtle, but ironic. Plaid shirts are the most common among hipster clothes for guys. Guys too believe in accessorizing a lot. Chains, bracelets, heavy watches, dark rimmed glasses, bandanas, etc. are all very common to a hipster guy. They mostly come along with unisex accessories such as a houndstooth or checkered scarf tied around their neck and some neon Ray Bans. As far as the hairstyle is concerned, a hipster boy likes to keep it messy and big. So, if you spot a guy with a messy mane, supporting a shaggy haircut, there’s little doubt that he is not a hipster. So, there you have it, a hipster boy from head to toe.

Fashions come and fashions go. What people thought was hot in the 60s and the 70s may have gone out of style by the 90s and made a comeback in the recent past. However if you stop and think about it, movements and counter cultures such as goth, punk, and skater are still around, just not in the high populations that they once were. Some years they experience resurgence and others it seems like only a couple people are engaging in such fashion and culture. But in the end, it’s about being true to yourself and being how you want to be. Even if you’re the only hipster at your school, place of work, or in your entire city, who cares? If you feel hipster in your heart, then be a hipster, it’s really that simple.

The Top Must-Haves of Indie Clothing

 -Rule is No Rules-
There’s no denying that indie clothing is one of the best contemporary styles available today. You've probably heard that vintage t-shirts and tight jeans are the basis of most Indie wardrobes. However, that's not always the case. It's not as much about what you have, but how you wear it. Vests, for example, are ideal for converting a plain outfit into a work of art. By the way, after tracking the evolution of indie clothing over a decade, there’re some scents of indie style that a real indie can’t miss. Now, Let’s take a look at the basics and delve deeper into the famed indie clothing style.

Indie Tops

Flannel is in! Plaids in all colors are great to layer, or just to wear alone. For both genders, layering a flannel plaid shirt (unbuttoned) with your favorite shirt looks awesome, and is perfect for any weather; Spring, Summer, Fall or Winter!

Fitted solid-color t-shirts, ironic tees and vintage t-shirts/hoodies are indie as well. Great solid-color and ironic tees are everywhere, online and off, and they aren’t expensive. For the vintage, check out your local vintage retailers and thrift shops.

Floral tops and dresses are a great option for girls. They are really versatile and can be worn all year round. In warm weather, you can work the boho look by adding strappy sandals and a nice necklace. Layering with leggings and a cardigan make them perfect for cold weather too.

Indie Bottoms

Guys can go for anything that is fitted well, just stay away from baggy carpenter's and unflattering styles. Corduroy is great, and will keep you warm in the cold winter months.

Don't forget the skinny jeans! Black, dark denim, and grey/acid wash are great for both sexes, as are cords occasionally. For girls, colored denim is fine to wear occasionally, but make sure they match whatever shirts you're wearing (and be careful not to be labeled as scene!).

Indie Footwear and Accessories

Nike Dunks, Moccasins, Boat/Deck shoes and Vans Authentics are really classy and cool. They even come in a wide variety of colors. Converse are not the best choice for indie footwear, as they are now particularly mainstream. Adding your own touch to the shoes may bring you out of that, but the general population seems to all now own a pair of "unique" and "quirky" Converse. A good tip would be to buy a pair of plain colored ones and do your own doodles on them, if you must have a pair.

Scarves are great year round because you can get them in cotton, linen, silk and wool. They're a classy touch to add no matter what outfit you're wearing. Bright colors and neutrals both look great, as long as they go well with your outfit. Bandanas can also be made into a cool scarf. You can also wear a scarf in many different ways – even a simple scarf can make the most basic outfit seem amazingly unique.

Headphones are in right now. Nothing screams, "I love music!" more than a nice pair of headphones. Get yourself a nice pair of retro or designer headphones, that'll add a touch of mystery for when you're walking about.

Messenger bags are cool and come in loads of sizes and colors; they're also very convenient to put in anything you might have to carry. You can get leather ones and denim ones, whatever you please. A small one is also a perfect accessory.

Finally, The most important thing to keep in mind is that even within the indie clothing genre there are numerous ways to dress yourself. Remember, indie stands for being independent. To be truly indie, all you need to do is reading everything written above and forget all about it. There’s only one way to work the indie clothing style successfully and that is to play by your own rules!
